Why Anime Piracy is not a bad thing !
Why Anime Piracy is not a bad thing!
I was recently watching highlights of thrash taste and the topic of piracy and kissanime were the trending ones. The comment section too were filled with opinions of people so I thought maybe I should give my opinion too.
The beginning of piracy
The concept of anime piracy is not new. People have been pirating anime from the early 2000s and it's value has not been quite loosen much. The early reasons of rising anime piracy were that there were no other options than T.V and if non-Japanese wanted to have access to those they would have to wait few years for it's dub release to come out or else spend a lot of money buying it's Blu-ray release(which also takes a lot of time) and most of the anime's Blu-ray were hardly available. The weebs then had no choice but to pirate them.
Why is it still relevant?
Even though anime industry have a lot of legal options like crunchyroll, Animalab, etc the piracy is still relevant because the anime industry has increased and not only developed countries but also developing and 3rd world countries has produced weebs. However, for those weebs legal options are un-available due to licensing by creators or just because those options are not available...anime lab is only available in new Zealand and Australia(developed countries).
Anything beside U.S.A have only a few animes in Crunchyroll which are available in their region.
Is it really wrong?
This topic have 2 sides and I will discuss both of them and my personal opinion on it.
The creator side :-
The creator and studios works really hard on their shows and then piracy sites steal it.. It really doesn't affect the profit of studios because broke weebs will never pay, no matter what. However, piracy sites are making millions just by uploading few videos which really is not economically and morally correct.
The broke weeb side :-
As I mentioned above they don't really have any choice rather than pirating it.
My opinion :-
I think piracy sites should be left as how it is. However, not those which are making millions but those which are either run by donations or showing ads just to enough to mantain servers. If piracy didn't existed then the person who is a grown weeb now will never have realised their love for anime and anime industry will not have so much influence internationally. A lot of those weebs now which have used piracy sites now uses legal modes like crunchyroll and all. If piracy didn't existed they never might have reached this point. Yes, I am saying that piracy could be helpful for developing anime industry.
Disclaimer : My opinions don't have a legal basis and I don't support or encourage anime piracy legally..
